With HPS Search you can easily find text words and phrases in multiple
files and subdirectories. HPS Search is ready to use with no
complicated setup - select the starting directory, enter the text to
search for, and hit Start. You will immediately begin seeing a list of
files displayed, as matches are found. Click on one of the matches, and
you will see the line containing the match, plus some surrounding lines
in the context window.
Safe for Forensics
HPS Search does not permit changing text or
modifying files, so it is guaranteed safe for use in computer forensics
situations.
HPS Search is very effective in security, law enforcement, and other
legal investigations such as cases involving intellectual property.
HPS Search is able to drill down through multiple sub-folders and
find the evidence you need. With three type of pattern matches
and immediate recall of search terms, you can quickly fine-tune and
repeat searches across multiple folders and drives, and then
use the Save Results option to save the data you find.
Results are Digitally Signed
Because HPS Search does not allow any
changes to the files it searches, you are guaranteed that the data
you find will stand up in court. Furthermore, HPS Search
inserts a digital signature
called a message digest each time you save your search results
to a file. This ensures that the authenticity of the search results
can be verified at any time. HPS Search has a built-in function to check
the results file, and any change in the results text will cause the
message digest to fail to authenticate. The message digest is computed
according to the US Secure Hash Algorithm SHA-1, which is a
cryptographically secure one-way algorithm designed by the
National Institute of Standards (NIST) and the
National Security Agency (NSA).
Four Search Types
HPS Search offers four kinds of searches, including regular expressions.
The search text is saved to allow immediate repeat
searches with different settings or a different folder.
Drive Bar
The HPS Search Drive Bar allows instant access to all drives, and
the exclusive Speed Folders™ found only in HPS
Search give you direct access to frequently used folders.
You can define up to five Speed Folders – click on a Speed
Folder button, and the folder tree will be opened at that folder.
File Filters
HPS Search File Filters allow you to specify date and size ranges
for the files to be searched. You can also enter extensions for
files that you want to exclude from the search.
Integrated With Your Editor
You can select your editor from one of the predefined editors,
or customize HPS Search to use your editor.
With the command-line options of your editor set up,
double-clicking on a file that is open in the context window will open
the file in your editor, at the same line.
